What if there was a way for communities to directly support their local science teachers? We've got one! The National Center for Science Education has been piloting a Science Booster Club project in Iowa City since May of 2015. In the fall of 2015, we brought three more communities and school districts on board, including the Clear Creek Amana school district, the greater Cedar Rapids area, and West Branch.  In December of 2016, we expanded to new locations in Iowa: Grinnell, Des Moines, and Ames.  And as of 2017, we're going national! Clubs are getting off the ground and receiving NCSE materials in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas, Maryland, Virginia, California, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Nebraska. We are looking forward to hearing stories about their work on the ground in these diverse, challenging areas.

Donate now to the Science Booster Club program!

As of March 2017, the clubs have attracted more than 1,100 members, and have provided fun, community-based science education to over 56,000 people. We have raised money to fund 15 teacher requests that will have a lasting impact on more than 4,200 students per year.  We've just finished our 4th funding cycle.

Science Booster Clubs (SBC) are a new way to support science education at the community level. You can read more about what’s going on in Iowa, and with our national expansion, in these blog posts:

NCSE’s Science Booster Club project is ready for limited national launch. As we continue to learn from our experiences in Iowa, we are also rolling out our program at test sites nationwide. Are you active in one of our current states?  Send Emily an email at schoerning @ ncse. com, we'll figure out a way for you to help!

We want to know what your local teachers need and help you find ways to bring fun science events to your community.
